We grabbed a quick breakfast downstairs and walked the one block to meet the motorcoach for our tour! The bus was completely full probably 50 people doing the tour! We also noticed we started to see Steelers fans mixed in with everyone else. The driver was very skilled on these skinny country roads with other buses coming toward us. The views were very pretty as we drove along the coast.
Dunguaire Castle
Our first stop was the Dunguaire Castle, a tower used for defense in the 16th century. They occasionally have banquets and celebrations here in the spring! This castle has also been used for a bunch of movies including Guns in the Heather. It was cool that there was a little dirt path all the way around the castle that you could see out onto the bay.
There was also a stop for lunch at Fitzpatrick’s Bar! It was a very quick stop with a small menu so I got the traditional fish & chips and Taylor opted for a salad. The place was very cool with real wood fireplaces which was awesome!
Cliffs of Moher, Ireland
We made it to the Cliffs of Moher! It’s really cool how all the gift shops and the visitor center are built into the sides of the hill with grass on top! It's some nature law they have here to preserve the land and the looks of the area! After a short walk up the hill we had a perfect view of the cliffs and they were beautiful. There was a chest high wall so it was difficult to get good pictures of us in it.
We headed back toward the visitor center and saw the other cliffs behind us which are cool but not the same. There was a cliff exhibition too which was neat, it showed the types of birds on the cliffs and the types of rocks on the cliffs, as well as showed the erosion that has been happening. We also grabbed a quick little snack, I got a caramel bar and Taylor got an açaí bowl with a chai!
We also headed to do the 4D experience which was a very unique experience showing the cliffs from the perspective of a bird. It feels like Flight of Passage but you were standing instead. We also stood in the gift shop for like 10 minutes flipping through the Where’s Larry book, which is Where’s Waldo but a leprechaun, I won! Taylor heard gossip in the bathroom that someone fell over the edge and I told her there was no way that was true, but sure enough there were boats and a helicopter searching the water! It is a 700 foot drop so I hope that was just a rumor.
We got back to Galway around 6pm and were very tired! We just wanted a quick bite to eat so we stopped at our first McDonald’s of the whole trip. We both love trying McDonald’s in other countries since the menus are all unique and different in each place! This is officially the 5th different country we have had it! They had a chicken Big Mac here as well as a range of different wraps. But the best part is the weird Mcflurries they always have! I got the toffee one this time around.
We have a full day in Galway tomorrow!
