We slept in today to catch up on sleep from our long day yesterday and were soon out and about looking for a bakery! We found a local bakery called Brauð & Co and grabbed a quick morning snack. Taylor got a cinnamon roll and I got a vanilla roll! Right beside the bakery there was a small coffee shop called Te & Kaffi, Taylor was very excited they had an iced chai latte, and I opted for a simple hot chocolate! We found a super cute garden to sit down and enjoy our treats!

Things to Do in Reykjavik

We spend the next couple hours walking around downtown Reykjavik, we visited their famous church (Hallgrimskirkja) and took a stroll down the rainbow road. We stopped in probably a dozen little gift shops but didn’t buy anything, the puffin store was our favorite! It started to rain so of course Taylor took my hat and I got wet.

We started to get a little hungry so decided to grab another snack! I opted for the fabled Icelandic hot dog, with the BEST fried onions on them in the world. We also decided to try the famous Crème Brûlée donut at DEIG Bakery, is was so cool they flambéd in right in from of us! This was absolutely worth all the hype and a must try.

Northern Lights Tour from Reykjavik

We saw online there was going to be a solar storm tonight with a high probability to see the northern lights! Once we saw that we sporadically booked a northern lights bus tour. It was from 10pm to 2am so we decided to go back to the room and take a nap since we still were a little jet lagged and wanted to be awake!

After a short nap we decided to grab our first real meal of the day at 101 Bistro in the City Center. I got my first (soon to be many) order of fish’n chips, they were ok very greasy but the fries were fantastic! Taylor got the Chicken Plate that was Mediterranean themed and it was delicious. Of course we needed to get a sweet treat so we opted for the lava cake, it was served with a scoop of whipped cream instead of ice cream! It was FANTASTIC!

We booked our tour from The Northern Lights Center and they pick you up at the nearest city bus stop to your hotel, for us it was just a couple blocks away. There were about 15 people on our minibus and we had a local guide Icelandic guide which was cool! Most of the people on our tour were actually from Florida funny enough!

It was very cold but they served hot chocolate and a little cinnamon roll which was great. It was a little disappointing because the lights never came out to be able to see with the naked eye, however we got some really cool pictures! The camera shows the most marvelous thing in the world, but we couldn’t see any colors with our eyes. Glad we did it but sad we didn’t really see anything!
