The Perfect Proposal in Iceland

Taylor here! Ben hinted that our trip to the Snæfelsnes Peninsula included a very special surprise, but I could have never imagined a proposal this perfect.

It all started on our short hike towards the top of Bjarnarfoss. This majestic, 262-foot (80m) waterfall thunders down basalt cliffs, and to get the best view you need to take a short but steep walk uphill. I'm not sure if it was the cloudy weather or the time of day, but the path was almost completely deserted, and it was like a secluded piece of paradise.

We walked up to the viewpoint and, as usual, Ben was taking plenty of great photos of me and the scenery from a distance. When another hiker approached us from behind, I watched from above as Ben passed her his phone and jogged up to meet me. He said she'd offered to take a picture of us together.

We posed for a few seconds, and I was totally caught off guard when Ben turned towards me and dropped to one knee! I honestly blacked out; I sadly can't remember what he said or even what happened, only that I was sobbing, I said yes, and I could faintly hear cheers from other hikers further up the trail.

After the big moment, we sat at the top of the viewpoint to call our friends and family and tell them the good news. Everyone was so surprised and there were so many smiles. I couldn't stop staring at my ring! Meanwhile, every hiker that passed by offered sweet congratulations and took a couple more photos of us.

Eventually, the wind and water got a bit too chilly, and we left our special spot to hike back down the (considerably more slippery) cliffs. Then it was on to the rest of our adventure in the Snæfelsnes Peninsula...with a new piece of jewelry. ;)
