Today is a day full of the sightseeing as we make our way from Vik to Hella. We had to backtrack just a little for our first stop which was Gígjagjá, also known as the Yoda Cave. It was pretty cool cause it did look exactly like Yoda. Our guide also told us that this rock side was where the coast used to be but when the last volcanic eruption happened it spread ash out past the rocks and lengthened the shore by a few kilometers. This was also supposedly a big filming location for Christopher Nolan's new movie, The Odyssey.

Waterfalls on Iceland's South Coast

We then got back on the road and headed to one of the busiest waterfalls in Iceland, Skogafoss! It was cool to see but underwhelming compared to other ones we have seen on this trip. This one is famous for always having a rainbow but there was no sun today so we missed that. Most people don't know but just a 10 minutes walk away is Kvernufoss, a tall waterfall you can walk behind! This one was awesome since you could literally get right beneath it and much less crowded.

We got back on the road and headed to Seljalandsfoss which is a much more popular waterfall you can walk behind. Unlike the other one you get pretty soaked if you opt to walk around this one! Just a short 5 minute walk away is Gljufrabui, a truly hidden gem. You enter a little gorge split into the side of the rocks and inside there is a fantastic waterfall. We got drenched going in and had to walk through the water but absolutely worth it!

We then had a sketchy little drive down a very unpaved road to make it to the airbnb for the night! Taylor really wanted to do a glass window cabin so we broke our no airbnb rule for this one. We have had very bad luck in the last year with airbnb's so been trying to stick with places you can book on expedia or booking. This one was nice but there was no TV and also cabins around that could see right in.

We ran back out into the town of Hella to go to Midgard for dinner. The food was ok nothing special but it was one of the only options. The butter was garlic butter and to die for though. Taylor got the pesto pasta and I grabbed the baked arctic char! I also had to snap a picture of the sink in the bathroom, I think this could easily be mistaken for a urinal depending on the country you are in!

Going to be real cold tomorrow!

Ben :)
