Day 13 - Travel Day to Selfoss, Iceland - September 12, 2025

Today was our last day of nothing but sightseeing! We left early in the morning to make it to our excursion which was about an hour away from the hotel. On the way we passed by the American Schoolbus Cafe which was just outside of Hella! The interior was very cool and retro, but the drink and pastry did not compare at all to the other little cafes we've been too.

Snowmobiling in Iceland

We made it to the parking lot to meet our group for the excursion. We are snowmobiling on a glacier today! I would say there were about 25 of us on the bus and it was an hour ride to make it to the base camp at the bottom of the glacier. We got suited up in our warm suits and got some sturdy helmets! We reached 45 kmh on the snowmobile which was nerve racking. When I say the entire ground was nothing but ice, I mean the whole thing was sheer ice.

Gulfoss Waterfall, Iceland

We then went to the gift shop and cafe at the famous Gulfoss waterfall. Taylor got a ham and cheese sandwich and I got chicken tenders and fries! The food was ok but the disappointing part was this Oreo cake looked AMAZING but ended up having absolutely no flavor at all.

We headed outside to see Gulfoss which was really beautiful. It was actually really cool to learn about the history of the waterfall. It used to be on someone's farm, then another person tried to turn it into a hydropower plant, then it became a tourist attraction. We then headed down the road to the lesser known Bruarfoss. This was a very small waterfall in comparison but the colors were so amazing to see.

We drove about an hour down to Hotel Grimsborgir to stay the night! This was the most Americanized hotel that we had seen with the layout and bathroom layout. We were very tired and had an early night in with a little TV!

Off to the Airport tomorrow!
